Things To Do In The Area

Fayence is one of a series of “perched villages” overlooking the plain between the southern Alps and the Esterel massif, which borders the sea between Cannes and Saint-Raphaël.  Fayence is an area of natural, well kept beauty and tradition. The wonderful region of Provence and Côte d’Azur offers such a wide range of activities. Below you find suggestions in the local area, from rafting to horse riding. With the wonderful weather that the region benefits from, you will want to make the most out of your time there. There is something for every taste. Even in the winter months, the mountains are within a reasonable distance for those who would like to go skiing one day and perhaps head to the sea the next. Throughout the year, there are numerous Provence tours that you can take, including visits of the beautiful villages around the area or something to keep the kids entertained, a spa day to help you relax more on your villa holiday.

Villa Fayence is just a very short drive or 15 minute walk away from the picturesque centre of the medieval village Fayence. In the centre you can buy fresh baquettes, croissants, and have a good choice of cheese and delis. It also includes a butcher shop, supermarket and a varied choice of stores. Fayence offers plenty of good restaurants, cosy terraces and a market (on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday) where you can find local fresh products. For antique lovers the Fayence Antiques fair is held 3 times a year in a garden of an old Provençal bastide.

Water activities

About 10 minutes distance from villa Ciel Bleu there is a large recreational lake, Lac St. Cassien, with swimming, boating and shore-side restaurants. The lake makes a great alternative to the beach on a hot summer’s day, there are pedalos for hire and, unique to the area, an “Aqua Park” consisting of enormous inflatables and trampolines on the water.

Shopping

The Côte d’Azur is a paradise for shoppers. Most of the stores you can find in Cannes, Saint Tropez and Nice. In Saint Tropez you find the trendy stores in Rue Gambetta. Nice’s old town is a highlight and it’s now packed with delis, restaurants, boutiques and bars, but the centrepiece remains cours Saleya: a massive market square that’s permanently thronging in summer. The food market is perfect for fresh produce and foodie souvenirs, while the flower market is worth visiting just for the colours and fragrances.

If you are in the neighbourhood of Saint-Jean-Cap-Ferrat (about 30 minutes drive from Nice) it is worth visiting the Rothschild Villa. An over-the-top, belle-époque confection, this villa was commissioned by Baroness Béatrice Ephrussi de Rothschild in 1912. From its balcony, nine exquisite themed gardens appear like a ship’s deck. Stunning in spring, the Spanish, Japanese, Florentine, stone, cactus, rose and French gardens are delightful to stroll through – sea views are supreme and fountains ‘dance’ to classical music every 20 minutes. We recommend you to buy a ticket including lunch packet, this way you can have a relaxing lunch in one of the beautiful gardens.
